On a typical summer weekend, people can be seen swimming or fishing in Big Raccoon Creek. Some kayak above the dam. After a dip in the creek, take a stroll across the covered bridge, one of only thirty one left in Parke County. The bridge pictured here was rebuilt in 2006. The original bridge was built in 1868 and destroyed by arson in 2005.
A visit to the Bridgeton Mill is a must. A walk through the store will reveal a working grist mill. If you’re lucky, you’re find one of the owners, Mike Rowe, grinding grains with the French Burr grindstones. Take a moment to talk to Mike. He’ll explain how the mill operates. Cornbread, pancake, and other mixes are available for purchase inside the mill.
Outside of the mill, enjoy ice cream, cobbler, or a root beer float.
