New Logo, New Direction — Same Me

When I started Hacking The Hike, it was a place to document gear, trails, and the chaos of hiking with five kids. It was personal, practical, and full of pine needles. But over time, the blog evolved — because I did.

I wanted a place where I could share my love of outdoors with my love of technology. A place that I could share my camping tips and hiking hacks along with my technology reviews and Linux guides. It was an unlikely fusion of diverse interests.

I found myself writing more about Linux than lanterns. More about privacy tools than packing lists. More about fixing touchpad bugs than fixing trail mix. And somewhere along the way, Hacking The Hike became less about the hike itself and more about hacking the systems that power our lives — laptops, distros, workflows, and the occasional kernel panic.

So today, I’m officially launching a new logo and a refined identity for the site.

It’s still me. Still practical. Still a little snarky.
But now it reflects the direction I’ve been heading for a while:
Linux. Privacy. Real-world tech.
With a quiet nod to the outdoorsman still in me.

The new logo blends a mountain and circuitry — a visual handshake between where I started and where I’m going.

This isn’t just a rebrand. It’s a recommitment.
To writing guides that actually help.
To testing hardware that doesn’t betray you.
To sharing the messy, funny, frustrating reality of running Linux on modern machines.

Thanks for sticking with me through the pivots.
And if you’re new here — welcome.
Let’s fix some stuff.
